The Last of This Year’s Masterclasses

The year’s club Masterclasses came to a conclusion this Saturday (10th June) with the third in a series on aspects of narrative structure.

Among our membership, we are lucky to have experienced coaches in everything from short forms such as poetry and flash fiction, through film and play scripts, all the way to full length novels. The latest trilogy of Masterclasses were led by the novelists Helen Cooper, Rod Duncan and Dave Martin.

Having earlier covered ‘Beginnings, Middles and Ends’ and ‘The Creation of Character’, this last in their series tackled the tricky subject of building a strong narrative voice. The group looked at examples from novels as diverse as Pride and Prejudice, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Grapes of Wrath, Flowers for Algernon and The Rosie Project.
