LWC Celebrates a Writing Club Wedding

Our website isn’t usually a noticeboard for the highlights of the social calendar, but when a former club president marries the club president elect, we knew we had to make an exception! This is a true Writers’ Club love story (we’re looking for a ghost writer for the novel). The couple met at the Writers’ Club summer garden party and started dating after the club’s annual awards dinner in the year that Helen came as our guest speaker.

So it’s congratulations to Phil and Helen, now Mr and Mrs Irving, who married at Derby’s Museum of Making over the bank holiday weekend (26th May 2024). A great turnout of family, friends and members of the Writers’ Club were there to witness the event and many a tear was shed at the marriage of a couple so obviously in love (as illustrated in the picture above).

They did, of course, have the most appropriate cake two writers could choose (yep, that really is a cake pictured below):

And the traditional speeches were kicked off by… erm… Helen, though Phil did get a word in edgeways later:

Thanks to Phil and Helen for the invite. We all hope you have a great time on your honeymoon. We’re sure you’re going to have a great life together. Here’s the club members lined up behind the happy bride and groom to wish them luck:

(Thanks also to Nancy Dawkins, Paige Worrall and Emma Lee for the photographs.)
