Reminder: Summer Open Evenings – Start 3rd July

Just a reminder that the always-popular Writers’ Club’s Summer Open Evenings are about to start. These events are the ideal free ‘tasters’ for anyone looking to join a strong, long established writing community that promotes high quality creative work. Every Thursday evening from 3rd July to 28th August 2025, you can: –

  • Get constructive and professional feedback on your work-in-progress.
  • Meet other writers to discuss markets, writing tips and news.
  • Join a friendly group of professional and semi-professional writers.

Come along to Leicester Writers’ Club where you can witness the club in action, meet current members and decide whether the club is right for you. The club meets each Thursday in the upstairs Meeting Room at Phoenix Cinema & Art Centre, 4 Midland Street, Leicester LE1 1TG, 7-9pm.

Drop us a message on our Contact Us page to let us know if and when you’d like to come along, so we can make sure we have a committee member there to host your visit. Alternatively, we can provide a link to our Zoom feed for those unable to join us in person.

Leicester Writers’ Club

The Club has been the alma-mater of successful Midland-based writers since the 1960s. We have nurtured future award winners and our club meetings have heard authors reading their work-in-progress, including on occasion New York Times Bestsellers, long before the texts were anything more than a twinkle in the eye (or keyboard) of their creators. Many of those who ‘made it into print’ are still to be seen on Thursday nights offering help and advice.

Our Club Members write poetry, novels, short stories, children’s fiction, non-fiction and screenplays. The Club’s main purpose is to provide a supportive environment for members to critique work-in-progress and to network for information on markets and opportunities. The Club also offers advanced masterclasses, a writing retreat, social and speaker events – usually talks from agents, editors or publishers.

Once you’ve had the taster, and if you decide that the Club is for you, then you will be asked for a sample piece of your writing for consideration by the Club committee.
