In May, we will welcome Rebecca Fallon to Leicester Writers’ Club for another club speaker evening (Thursday 14th May 2026, from 7-9pm at Phoenix Cinema and Art Centre, Midland St, Leicester LE1 1TG.)
Rebecca’s first novel, ‘Family Drama’ was published in January 2026, by Borough Press (an imprint of HarperCollins) in UK and by Simon & Schuster in US.
Drawing comparisons to Ann Patchett and Anne Tyler, it became Good Housekeeping’s Book of the Month.
Reviewers have said:
‘A beautiful portrait of a woman living a double life’ – GOOD HOUSEKEEPING
‘Sharp, emotionally astute’ – OBSERVER
‘Beautifully written’ – DAILY MAIL
‘An absorbing story of love, loss and the price of fame’ – HEAT
‘A magnificent debut’ – CLARE LESLIE HALL, author of BROKEN COUNTRY.
‘Bruisingly gorgeous’ – KIRAN MILLWOOD HARGRAVE, author of THE MERCIES.
Rebecca will talk about the development of ‘Family Drama’ and its extraordinary journey into publication. Having completed the Curtis Brown Novel Writing Course in 2019, she ran straight into the Covid lockdowns that paralysed the publishing industry. She persisted, signing with an agent, quitting her full-time job and beginning a six-year process of honing the book from its early drafts, through changes in central characters, to feverish rights auctions and its acclaimed launch – a lesson in dedication to all would be writers. Come and hear how she did it!
Rebecca is a New England born Londoner. She studied at Williams College and the University of Oxford. She has published academically on female ISIS recruiters and the #Celebgate photo hacks, and worked previously at Spotify. She has written recent features for The Observer and The Fence.
