Social Media and Writers Panel 19th May

Leicester Writers’ Club are hosting a Social Media and Writers Panel on Thursday 19 May 2016 from 7pm at Phoenix Arts, 4 Midland Street, Leicester LE1 1TG. Three writers, Rod Duncan, Emma Lee and Siobhan Logan, will talk about aspects of social media which will be followed by a question and answer session. This event is open to non-members, tickets £5.

RodRod Duncan is a novelist and screenwriter. He lectures in creative writing at De Montfort University. We no longer look to elite reviewers in the broadsheets to guide us. Everyone can have a view and everyone’s view can be published. Readers also have more direct access to writers than ever before.  Rod enjoys engaging in this ongoing conversation. He sees blogging, social media and transmedia as natural facets of his writing life. He argues that social media is a more powerful tool for building relationships than for marketing – though relationships may indirectly sell books and will certainly inhibit piracy. EmmaEmma Lee will talk about blogs, including whether blogging is right for you, search engine optimisation (SEO), promoting your blog and building an audience, clickbait, guest posts, managing blog comments, dealing with trolls, pitching to book review bloggers, interpreting blog statistics and alternatives if blogging isn’t right for you. Emma Lee blogs at http://emmalee1.wordpress.com and has been blogging since 2007. Previously she’s worked in marketing focusing on social media marketing including blogging. She is a review blogger for Simon & Schuster and reviews for three on-line magazines.

sioban1Siobhan Logan‘s poetry & prose collections Firebridge to Skyshore and Mad, Hopeless and Possible are both published by Original Plus Press. They have been performed at Ledbury Poetry Festival, the British Science Museum, National Space Centre and British Science Festival. In 2014 she ran a writing residency on WW1 for Writing East Midlands and her current obsession is Space: the race, the rockets, the final frontier. Her hypertext poem sequence on the Philae comet lander will be published on the European Space Agency website later in 2016. She blogs at: http://siobhanlogan.blogspot.co.uk/
