Congratulations to Mark Brandon, winner of our club’s Short Story Competition this year. A record entry was judged by guest and former club member, Divya Ghelani, and Mark’s story, ‘Title to Come’ was her pick.
In her judge’s commentary, Divya says of the story:
“Immediately engaging storytelling! It is confidently and wonderfully crafted with excellent style, wit, and sentence-by-sentence the reading experience feels fully alive. I love the engaging postmodern/self-referential story style, and the clever opening with its discussion about ‘story’ . It’s a narrative structure like Russian dolls, and each twist is surprising and fun to read. Story has stayed in mind long after. Last week, I found myself excitedly chatting to friends about its story and structure. Well done!”
Second Place went to Emma Lee, seen below collecting her certificate from competition organiser, Morag Edwards. Phillip Irving was placed third.

Our poetry competition is next in line. Entries are now being accepted (from club members only), until 30th June.
